LA BICYCLETTE DE JOJO

Terminons l’année avec un sourire: voilà une histoire qui réchauffe le coeur.

Être réuni avec un vieil ami ne se passe pas tous les jours. Pourtant, c’est ce qui est arrivé récemment à Joseph Carayon, alias Jojo, âgé de 85 ans, habitant d’Abeilhan, village au nord-est de Béziers.

75 années sont passés depuis l’arrivée de cet ami dans la vie de Jojo. En fait il ne s’agit pas d’un être humain mais d’une bicyclette que son père lui a offerte pour le Noël 1946. Il l’avait bricolé de ses propres mains en assemblant des éléments qu’il a trouvés ça et là.

Un chineur, Thomas Christiny, l’a repéré dans une brocante, son attention attirée par une plaque fixée sur le cadre sous le guidon. Il a décidé d’essayer de retrouver illico le propriétaire de la bécane pour la lui rendre, rouillée mais en parfait état de fonctionnement.

La cerise sur le gâteau? Jojo est encore cycliste: il fait 13 km par jour comme livreur du journal quotidien régional Midi Libre à une soixantaine d’abonnés. Tant mieux pour lui. On lui souhaite encore beaucoup de kilomètres en 2022.

Let’s finish the year with a smile: here’s a heartwarming story.

Being reunited with an old friend doesn’t happen every day. However, it did happen recently to Joseph Carayon, aka Jojo, aged 85, who lives in Abeilhan, a village to the north-east of Béziers.

75 years have gone by since this friend came into Jojo’s life. Actually we’re not talking about a human being here, but a bicycle which his father gave him for Christmas 1946. He had cobbled it together himself with elements that he found all over the place.

A bargain hunter, Thomas Christiny, spotted it in a junk shop, a nameplate attached to the frame under the handlebars having caught his eye. He decided to try to locate the owner of the bike straightaway in order to give it back to him, rusty, but in perfect working order.

The icing on the cake? Jojo is still cycling: he does 13 km per day delivering the regional daily newspaper ‘Midi Libre’ to around sixty subscribers. Good for him. We wish him many more kilometres in 2022.
