Si vous habitiez au pôle nord où en été le soleil se couche tard, vous passeriez peut-être des nuits blanches.
Mais d’habitude on parle d’une nuit blanche quand on a passé une nuit sans dormir, généralement involontairement mais aussi si on a passé la nuit à faire la fête.
La difficulté à trouver le sommeil est un problème de plus en plus courant. Selon les sondages, un adulte sur cinq déclare souffrir régulièrement d’insomnie et deux personnes sur trois vont souffrir de troubles de sommeil à un certain point de leur vie.

to have a sleepless night or to stay up all night (literally to spend a white night)
If you were living at the north pole where in the summer the sun goes to bed late, you might spend a ‘nuit blanche’ (white night).
But usually you talk of a ‘nuit blanche’ when you’ve spent a night without sleeping, generally involuntarily but also if you’ve been up all night partying.
Difficulty sleeping is a more and more common problem. According to surveys, one adult in five claims to suffer regularly from insomnia and two out of three people will have sleeping problems at some point in their lives.
